Head Gardener

Private garden on the Island of Jersey

This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and motivated Head Gardener to take the helm of our emerging garden as it nears completion.

The 20-acre estate including a restored Jersey Manor House is being remodelled working closely with internationally renowned Garden Designer, Arne Maynard to create an exquisite 4-acre garden of immense horticultural distinction and beauty.

The garden features a stunning 4-acre space with diverse plantings, traditional materials, and new features such as a Pond, Grotto, Shell House & Colombier. Its ornamental walled garden includes a productive area with a glasshouse for propagating cut flowers and potted plants. The landscape also boasts wildflower meadows, orchard, topiary, hedges, rhododendrons, and courtyard gardens.

We are seeking a truly hands on Head Gardener - someone with passion, an amazing knowledge of plants and perennials and a creative eye. They will also need to be a great leader and developer of their team, an impeccable communicator and collaborator with the owners, designer, and our wider team.

We would expect candidates to have a minimum RHS Level 3 horticultural qualification or equivalent, really good experience and plant knowledge, and who can demonstrate a progressive, committed and stable career path. A clean Driving Licence is essential.

Reporting directly to the owners, you’ll manage daily maintenance, team development, and garden projects, supported by two full-time gardeners and specialist contractors.

Salary negotiable for an exceptional candidate but will be circa £52k (guided by the Professional Gardeners Guild salary guidelines) and include on-site accommodation.

Start date in preparation for planting in September.

Please note that applicants should be suitably experienced and qualified and must already have the right to work in the UK / British Isles.
